pay to play

why on earth do i need to PAY to go running? i'm not sure.  but the truth is, unless i pay to enter a run or race or fundraiser, i'm just not going to do it.  i need a reason.  apparently just because its good for me is not good enough.

why do the good things have to be hard?  why isn't it EASY to eat right?  why doesn't broccoli and chicken taste as good as pizza?  why do french fries have to be so yummy?  being fit and healthy is WORK.  and lots of it.  WTF?  and i think the worst part is not only that its physically hard, but that its also hard to find the right answers. right?  do i eat 5 small meals or 3 big ones?  do i follow my macros or do i count calories? and which app is the best for collecting all of this ridiculous information everyday?  do my workout calories count or do they throw me into a deficit?  WHO KNOWS???

Life expectancy would grow by leaps and bounds if green vegetables smelled as good as bacon.  ~Doug Larson

i own a fitness business.  i am a certified personal trainer with a pretty hard to get certification. i have a fitness nutrition specialization.  and all i can tell you is this.....everyone is different.  what works for me and what works for you may not be the same thing.  and anyone who tells you that there is one solutions is lying to you - or trying to sell you something.  which is not to say there are easier answers.  if you drink shakes to replace your food for 2 of your 3 meals, you are going to lose weight. its just not sustainable.  which is why these businesses exist.  they count on you cycling back thru them.  21 day fix - yup, it works.  because for 21 days you can cram all your food into little cartons.  guess what happens when you stop?  but it works for awhile. it all works for short periods.  but where am i going with this?

There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.-Beverly Sills

THINGS IN LIFE THAT WE VALUE TAKE WORK!!  if its easy, there's a catch. or at least that's the lesson.  we EARN our good health.  we earn our fitness.  day in and day out.  in the kitchen (or not, in my case) and in the gym.  we can be proud of our accomplishments because they are NOT easy.  and maybe they arent supposed to be.  we appreciate things more if we have to battle to get them.  now im not saying i wouldnt like eating right to be a LITTLE easier.  because a lot of the time it seems almost impossible.  but people get there.  ive seen it.  and maybe it takes a while.  maybe it takes a LONG while.  but as long as its a work in progress, you will see results.  as long as you put the work in OVER TIME, you will get there.

Victory is reserved for those willing to pay its price.-Sun Tzu

Image result for hard work worth it quoteswe need to stop looking for the quick fix. the easy answer.  we need to EMBRACE the fact that this is a HARD journey.  and its lifelong.  you dont get to get fit and automatically stay fit.  you have to work for it.  all the damn time.  but you will eventually reach a place where its easiER to maintain.  where eating better isn't quite so hard.  and then you will start paying for races.  because you understand that its SUPPOSED to be hard.  your body demands the best you can give it.  it will only work as hard and as long as you do.

why not give it your best shot?  you would put the work in if it was for your kids.  or your husband. or friend.  probably even your neighbor. it's time you start doing it for yourself!  happy national womens day!
